For over 120 years the ‘LV’ Logo has been one of the most iconic and recognized logos in high fashion. From its humble beginnings in Paris to a global fashion superpower that topped $13.6 billion in value in 2019.

In 1835 the young 13-year-old Vuitton set out on a two-year journey on foot to Paris. He would seek shelter wherever he could, and find odd jobs to make ends meet. He would make the 292 miles (470 km) journey in search of a dream and a better life.

Upon arrival in Paris, he would take an apprenticeship under a successful box-maker and packer named Monsieur Marechal. In 1854, he would found his company. Seeing the need for luggage that was more easily stackable for long journeys, he designed his original flat-topped Trianon canvas trunks. Completely changing the design of modern trunks from round-topped, to the common flat design we see today.

From 1945-2019 that classic idea has evolved into the luxury designer handbags, purses, wallets, and luggage we all know and love.

In 1896 Georges Vuitton, the son of the Parisian box maker turned luggage designer, Created the interlocking L and V design. In an attempt to make a more marketable and recognizable brand and more difficult to counterfeit, the stylized floral pattern was added.

From 2003-2016 renown designer Marc Jacobs and Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami would begin their highly successful thirteen-year collaboration. Bringing forth some of the most well-known motifs the brand has to offer, such as the Cherry blossom, Character, and mono-camouflage patterns.

Since then the brand has taken on several iterations from multiple designers showcasing their own versions of the simple yet elegant design; Including designers Jeff Koons, and Kim Jones.
